Metaphor Undergraduate Literary Journal Vol. 43
Publication Design
Published each spring since 1982, Metaphor is a literary journal featuring original poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, art, and experimental literary works from undergraduate students at Weber State University. The challenge was creating an identity that remained flexible with the wide variety of works housed within the book.
Each section features a different visual element drawn by hand to help orient the viewer within the book as a whole. I spent time copyediting with the staff and got to be part of the entire process of designing, choosing, and editing the book before it was printed. The section titles and cover typography were drawn by me and were the main influence for the direction of the book’s visual aesthetic.
