F-Word:: A History of Craft and Feminism

Publication Design

F-word: A History of Craft & Feminism explores the use of craft by modern feminists to redefine craft as art and examine women’s forgotten history of craft. I pulled from traditional craft motifs and put them in a more subversive context, playing with ideas of femininity connected to the craft aesthetic. Traditional quilt squares and embroidery were the dominant sources of inspiration, which are the main topics discussed in the text as well as my own practice of craft. The way of production itself honors the mediums of craft as valid art forms for the masses, further emphasizing the impact and expanse of handicrafts throughout history.
